Niki asked me to post photos of food I'm eating. I'm still figuring out what to buy and where to buy it, on a budget, but here's a start. Hasten to add I'm not eating everything pictured...
These caught my eye in a local Rijswijkshop
I've already tried truffles, thanks to Merel... (yum!)
Not for consumption together - just a sample of purchases...
Behind, a recipe Merel cooked for us
Based on lovely experiences in my formative years I'd say that Dutch bakers are da bomb. Windmill biscuits mmmm....lots of spice.... We are having some nice weather this week and John has been doing some long over due pruning of the fig and pear trees plus creepers and shrubs.
lol I was translating Lente Bok on google and came up with Spring Billy Goat. THEN I notice the billy goat on the label. sigh I must learn to be more observant! What is it with goats on booze bottles?! haha Is it beer? Is taart cake? Feestvarken guest of honour? The piggie is the guest of honour :) Ambi loves them and now wants to ice like that.
Sneaker hid last night in the kid's room and did a huge pee on the TV couch this morning. :( Such a mess. But a relief it wasn't the good couch. Is turning nor'west today, good for drying.
I finally found the local 'supermarket' - Albert Heijn, in addition to the little speciality shops. As you say Marion, the biscuits, the flat breads - oh, I came here to lose weight! :-/ I am ashamed Niki - you have sorted out more language than I have. Yes, it's a beer. After several days alcohol-free I thought it was time to indulge (so much for losing weight...).
You clean up after Sneaker, I nearly step in a pile if regurgitated biscuits as I come down the stairs this morning. Dutch cat sick looks pretty much like NZ cat sick :-(
Ah - Grolsch. Years ago when I was a crazy pinball fanatic, Grolsch provide a free pinball computer game which I duly downloaded and installed. It's not available now - not that I'm still a crazy pinball fan. (sob!)
I can't tell from the label whether Grolsch is Dutch or Belgian. I was hoping to buy something Dutch. A nice beer anyway. I thought about our BBB jaunts as I tried to make my selection John. What else should I try??
